The singing reality show, Indian Idol 12 is nowadays grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Now, the show’s Season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant has called out the show for showing poverty, love interests, and tragic stories of the contestants to sell it. He said that the makers’ main focus is on that rather than the talent of the participants. He also added that this is not in the regional reality shows but only in Hindi reality shows.
In an interview with Aaj Tak, Abhijeet said, “These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favorite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are shown. The focus is only on that.”
Giving his own example, Abhijeet said that once he forgot the lyrics of a song while performing on the show and the judges of that show decided among themselves that he should be given another chance.
“But I can tell you with confidence that had it happened today, it would have been served to the audience with full dramatic effects of thunder and shock. But the viewers are also responsible. Hindi language public is always hunting for more spice,” he added.
Do you guys agree with Abhijeet’s point of view? Do let us know.
Recently, the show landed in a controversy when Kishore Kumar’s son Amit Kumar lashed out at the show. He was a special guest in one of the episodes that paid tribute to his father and he was not happy with the episode the way they paid tribute to his father. He was really disappointed. He told the Times of India that he wanted to stop the episode.
Indian Idol 12 is judged by Neha Kakkar, Himesh Reshammiya, and Anu Malik. Aditya Narayan is the host of the show.
