Shivangi Joshi is one of the biggest actresses on television. She started her career on Indian television at a very young age. The actress soon garnered fame as Naira in the highly successful daily soap Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She is at present a part of Kapil Dev’s initiative Khushi and will soon be seen facing her inner fears on Rohit Shetty’s show Khatron Ke Khiladi season 12.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Shivangi  Joshi opened up on many things, one of which is facing discrimination as a TV actor and her opinion on the medium being called regressive even today.

Shivangi Joshi says “I have faced a lot of ups and downs, won’t say criticism directly but there were a few incidents and moments where I felt why is this happening with me? Why people are reacting like that, right now half an hour back I mentioned the same thing to someone else. When I played a supporting actor and played the sister of the lead people, so I will tell you about an incident, I was on the set and a journalist came on the set to take interview of the lead. The cameraman thought that I was the lead of the show and was coming toward me to take the interview. I was pleasantly surprised. I was wondering, “Wow my first interview, I am sure he is coming to take my interview” I was so excited about it. Then the journalist came and said, “No No she is not the lead, don’t take her interview but take hers she is the lead”. I felt quite bad about it. There have been many more such instances that took place. But they made me a better human being. Therefore I am humble and will remain so.

On being asked about the discrimination faced by tv actors Shivangi  Joshi said, “I don’t understand, see we are performers. In the Television industry also we are performing and so do they perform in the film industry. As we are all performers, I don’t think there should be any discrimination because we are doing our best. I feel these three are different platforms. OTT is a little different where some different sort of content is shown, TV is a different platform where different content is shown. It’s the same for the film industry. I think people should take it like that. I think we all are performers who are giving our best. As the same things are done on all three platforms there should be no discrimination

I too have faced discrimination but I think this has happened to many artists. For when you want to wear a bigger stylist, you are told, “We do not give our outfits to TV actresses”. These things have happened and many have opened up about these incidents. So something similar has happened to me too,” she added.
