In a recent interview with Siddharth Kanan, Rajpal Yadav shared that he was once offered to play Jethalal’s role, which is now played by Dilip Joshi, in the popular sitcom TMKOC. Both the show and the role of Jethalal are amongst the most popular ones on Indian television. Revealing if he regrets not taking up the offer, Rajpal said, “Not at all. The character is being played by a fantastic actor. I view characters as those belonging to actors. So, in this market of entertainment, I don’t want to fit my character in someone else’s. I have never tried to mimic Charlie Chaplin’s characters.”
Reasoning why he would never attempt playing a role which is already established by someone else, the comedian further added, “So, I wish I remain fortunate enough to play characters that are made for me. But I wouldn’t want an opportunity to play a character, performed and created by someone else.”
