shah rukh khan, kamal haasan

In a country like ours, where cinema is no less than a religion of its own, people dream and aspire to meet their favourite actors who are their idols. They stand in lines for hours just to catch a glimpse of them or even receive a hi, but that’s what makes acting such an esteemed and wanted job in our country. But even actors and superstars once came from this audience only, and just like everyone else, even they have their idols, their favourites. It’s just that after coming into the industry, the goals change as instead of just meeting them, the aim becomes to work with them. And that is something that happened for Shah Rukh Khan when he got to work with Kamal Haasan in Hey Ram.

Kamal Haasan recently got into an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble where he spoke about how he has always wanted to work with the megastar Amitabh Bachchan in regional cinema, but somehow it hasn’t materialised yet. He even said how he missed working with Dilip Kumar sahab.

When mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan admitted to doing Hey Ram just so that he could work with Kamal Haasan and share screen space with him, a faint smile starts appearing on Haasan sir’s face as he said, “Yeah, he did. But I guess I am not that lucky because I didn’t get to act with the actor I wanted to. He had a choice and he worked with Amit sir, and with everyone he wanted to.”

While the topic of Hey Ram was on, another revelation was made by Kamal Haasan as he is mentioned that according to stories, Shah Rukh Khan didn’t even charge a penny for the film. He immediately answers in the affirmative, confirming the same. He responded, No, he didn’t. That is very true. But no, it did cost me something, though just a wristwatch. (Laughs) That’s all it was but then he advertises for wristwatches and he can get a watch anytime he wants, that’s not why he did it and I am forever grateful for that.”

It’s been 22 years to Hey Ram and Haasan sir and SRK haven’t appeared together on screen since, and it would indeed be a treat see them reunite on screen. Meanwhile, Haasan sir has the release of his next Tamil film, Vikram this coming Friday. The film also features Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil.
