There’s an invisible line between commercial and non-commercial films and interestingly, both have a different fanbase for those categories. Among many, actor Deepika Padukone has also starred in some out-and-out commercial films while she has also featured in some artistic and hard-hitting films. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Deepika was seen talking about balancing her commercial films with some special content-driven ones, what goes on in her head while choosing a film like Pathan or a Tamasha.
Deepika Padukone reveals why she chose Pathan as she told us, “Yes, exactly that, it is about balance and I think that India is a country that has an audience for all kinds of movies. I love when a story like Pathan is narrated to me, there’s a part of me, there’s an actor in me that loves those kinds of movies. I have started with a film like Om Shaanti Om which is a commercial film, as commercial as it can get. I have done a film like Chennai Express and it doesn’t get more commercial than that and that is very much a part of me. And then I do films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, or a Tamasha, or a Piku or Gehraiyaan now which are again a very much a part of me. These are the facets of my personality and somewhere I feel that when the narrations are given to me and when I hear these stories, I am able to relate to Chennai Express but at the same time I can relate to Piku and able to relate to Gehraiyaan as well. Even as an audience, I love films that are as close to reality, layered characters, real and vulnerable characters and performances. Even if I’m sitting at home and have the option of choosing what movie to watch, I will invariably watch a movie like Gehraiyaan which is real, raw and relatable and gives you that kind of feeling at the end of it. Those are the kind of films that I enjoy doing.”
