Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar left this world for her heavenly abode on February 6, this year. She is missed by fans and remembered by one and all. The legendary singer was known as the Nightingale of India and was widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential singers in India. A special tribute was paid to Lata Mangeshkar at the BAFTA Awards 2022. The Nightingale of India, late singer Lata Mangeshkar was featured in the ‘in Memorium’ segment of the BAFTA – British Academy of Film and Television Awards 2022.

BAFTA Awards 2022 paid a homage to the late legendary singer and regarded her as “an Indian playback singer, who recorded an estimated 25,000 songs for more than 1,000 Hindi films over a career spanning 70 years“.


Mangeshkar was the first Indian artist to perform at the Royal Albert Hall back in 1974. The ‘in Memorium’ montage tribute said, “Her film credits list is vast, but notable songs featured in Anamika (1973), Aasha (1980), Dil Se.. (1998) and Rang De Basanti (2006). In 2001, she was awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.

Taking to Twitter, author Aseem Chhabra tweeted a screenshot from the tribute montage. He gave a glimpse of the special homage to the late legendary singer.

BAFTA Awards 2022 was held on March 13, Sunday, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Apart from Mangeshkar, the ‘In Memorium’ segment also honored, actor-filmmaker Sidney Poitier, director Ivan Reitman, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, actors Monica Vitti and Sally Kellerman. BAFTA’s Twitter handle also paid tribute to late actor Dilip Kumar.

Meanwhile, Mangeshkar breathed her last in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She suffered multiple organ failure. The funeral of Lata Mangeshkar was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shah Rukh Khan and many others.
